Our Initiatives
Peer Support
Your fire fighters see things on a daily basis that would be overwhelming to the average person. Every time you dial 911, we respond knowing that we can and will solve your problem. But the tragedies that we respond to and the inherent stress put on fire fighters and EMS professionals can have a cumulative impact on our members' mental health.
We know how important it is to be there for each other, and the IAFF is committed to helping fire fighters every step of the way. Peer support programs have been proven to be an effective method for fire fighters to open up to each other, and we're dedicated to pushing the IAFF Peer Support Training Program toward members in each of our locals. The program is a two-day course taught by experienced peers from the fire service and behavioral health clinicians. Fire fighters see things that no one else should experience, but they don't have to struggle through that burden alone.
